Liz Murray sharing her incredible journey with an audience at DePauw University.
Liz Murray, a role model for all
Liz Murray is a strong and independent role model for teenage girls. As young girls grow up, many lose faith in themselves are and are forced to give up their education. Many times throughout Liz’s life, she wasn’t allowed to make decisions for herself, which made her think that there wasn’t much more she could do. But even with the doubts of many unbelieving people, Liz managed to defy everybody’s expectations. Liz reached her dreams of finishing high school and attending Harvard University. Liz is a very strong woman and she makes me a stronger person as well. I have tried to make excuses for myself but I know that someone like Liz never made excuses for herself because she wanted to create a great future for herself. I know that if I work hard and quit making excuses for myself, I can accomplish my highest goals in life. Liz Murray is a role model not only for teenage girls, but can be a role model for anyone, teaching them that it is better to try your hardest and exceed your own expectations than to not try at all.
If I was to meet Liz Murray
If I was to meet Elizabeth (Liz) Murray, I would ask her many questions. As I read Liz Murray’s autobiography I often wondered where her drive came from and how I too could have the motivation that she had to finish school. If I could meet Liz I would ask her why she never realized her potential before. When Liz was a child she was surrounded by drug and alcohol abuse, one question that I would ask Liz would be what kept her from becoming an addict along with her parents. Another topic I might bring up if I meet Liz would be the enthusiasm behind her schooling. Did she ever feel like giving up while she was taking double the classes? Did she ever want to just tell her teachers she couldn’t do it? Liz Murray was a hard working student, with the will to achieve great things, and if I was to meet her, I would thank her for inspiring me to never give up my dream
Liz Murray to be remembered for years
On a cold January’s day, a young girl Liz Murray decided to the unthinkable. Liz joined a high school without having hardly and previous schooling. She finished four years of high school in only two years, completing one year of high school each semester. Liz also applied for a writing contest, and was awarded a scholarship to Harvard University. How did she do this? With dedication and persistence that will inspire thousands of young students for years to come. Liz never had an easy childhood and during her freshman year of high school, she dropped out and ran away from home. Even though Liz was homeless, she returned to school months later. When Liz shared her story, that nobody, not even her teachers knew, Liz sparked a flame in people’s hearts. Liz told the world about her mother’s tragic death, her journey through homelessness, and how she finished high school with top grades and within only two years. Liz Murray will be remembered for years because she gave many people the hope do to something they never thought they could, and Liz taught many to set goals while accomplishing anything they believe in.
